Convenient Access from Southern Colony
For Southern Colony households, the dentist is practically next door. Southern Smiles works out of our FM 521 office beside the neighborhood, so anyone searching for a dentist near Southern Colony can be in the chair after about 4 minutes behind the wheel. Our two dentists provide checkups, fillings, cosmetic work and urgent care for adults and kids. A trip this short makes it far easier to keep every appointment on the calendar.
Starting from Ferndell Henry Elementary School at 7447 FM 521 Road, head south on FM 521 with the Southern Colony streets on your left. The whole run covers just 1.2 miles. Just south of where Southern Colony Avenue meets FM 521, you will find us on the east side of the road at 8421 FM 521 Rd Ste F, Rosharon, TX 77583. Pull up our Google Maps listing for turn-by-turn directions.
Almeta Crawford High School sits a little to the north-east of the subdivision, and the small FM 521 community of Juliff lies just south of our building. Neighbors in Arcola and Sienna use the same stretch of FM 521 to reach us. There are no toll roads anywhere on the way.
A Dental Office Right Outside Southern Colony
Southern Colony is one of the newer neighborhoods along FM 521, built in sections by D.R. Horton, and Fort Bend County accepted the streets of Section 4B, including Southern Colony Avenue and Sunset Colony Drive, in 2023. Many residents arrived recently, which often means finding a new dentist, new school routines and new insurance paperwork all at once. We try to make the dental part the easy one.
Because the drive is so short, a cleaning can fit into a lunch break or the gap between school pickup and dinner. Our team aims to see patients within about 5 minutes of their appointment time, so a quick visit stays quick. Treatment plans and consultations are pressure-free and come without judgment. You hear the options, ask your questions and decide what happens next.
Comfort is part of the plan as well. The office offers a beverage bar, TVs in the operatories, aromatherapy and warm towelettes. Online scheduling lets you choose a time from your phone without waiting on hold. For many Southern Colony residents, that combination turns the dentist into an errand rather than an expedition.
FM 521 is the main road through this corner of the county, running north about 3.3 miles to SH 6 at Arcola and south toward Juliff-Manvel Road and the route east to SH 288. Whichever way your workday takes you, the office sits on the road you already use. That makes a quick follow-up or a crown fitting far less of a scheduling puzzle.
Settling Into Southern Colony: Dental Habits Worth Restarting
A move tends to push routine care down the list. If your last checkup happened before the moving truck arrived, a fresh exam is a sensible first step in a new home. Our Cleanings & Checkups visit includes an exam, a cleaning, anti-cavity treatment and an oral cancer screening. Family block appointments let parents and children be seen in one trip.
New patients without insurance can start with our $99 Cleaning, Exam, & X-Ray* offer. It covers a full dental cleaning, an oral health exam and all standard x-rays. *This offer is for new patients without insurance and in absence of periodontal disease. That last condition matters, because gum disease calls for a different kind of cleaning.
Gum problems are easy to miss because they rarely hurt at first. Our dentists check gum health at every visit and track any changes over time. Early inflammation is far simpler to manage than the advanced stages, which is one more reason to book that first visit soon after unpacking. Children benefit from the same early attention, since small cavities in young teeth can grow quickly.
Nervous patients are common, and nobody needs to apologize for it. Nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation are available for dental anxiety or a strong gag reflex. Many adults who put off care for years find that one calm visit resets their whole relationship with the dentist. The goal is a plan you feel ready for, at a pace you choose.
Living this close also changes how you handle surprises. A chipped tooth on a Saturday morning or a toothache that builds through a workday is less stressful when the office is around the corner. Saturday visits run 9am to 3pm by appointment only, and Tuesday and Thursday hours extend to 6pm. We are closed Wednesday and Sunday.
Care You Can Get From a Dentist Near Southern Colony
General Dentistry
Routine exams and cleanings anchor every family's care here. The practice covers both family dentistry and children's dentistry, so Southern Colony parents and kids can see the same dentists. Regular visits catch small problems while they are still small.
Periodontics
Gum disease moves from gingivitis to periodontitis and then to advanced periodontitis. We monitor your gums at each checkup and recommend deeper cleaning only when the exam shows a need. Bleeding while brushing is worth mentioning at your next visit.
Restorative Dentistry
Fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures and extractions all fall under this heading. For a Southern Colony patient, a crown that takes more than one visit still means only short trips. We also treat cracked teeth and tooth or jaw pain.
Emergency Dentistry
Severe toothaches, broken teeth and mouth injuries get prompt treatment. Being right off FM 521 means you can get here quickly once we have a time for you. New patients may use our Free Emergency Exam & X-Ray*, which covers a visual exam of the problem area plus an x-ray. *New patients only.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Bonding, professional whitening, porcelain veneers and full smile makeovers happen in the same office as your cleanings. A fresh start in a new home is a natural moment to refresh a smile, too. Dr. Truong's training at NYU's Rosenthal Institute for Aesthetic Dentistry guides these cases.
Meet Your Southern Smiles Dentists
Two general dentists care for our patients. Dr. Phi Pham studied mechanical engineering at the University of Houston before his dental education at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and he is dedicated to implant dentistry. Dr. LeAnn Truong is a Houston native from a family of dentists who trained at the same UTHealth Houston dental school.
Insurance & Financing
We accept all significant PPO plans, plus Medicaid/CHIP for patients under the age of 21, which helps many young households. HMO plans and Medicare for patients 65 and older are not accepted. When a larger treatment plan needs to be spread out, Cherry, CareCreditยฎ and Proceed Finance are available.
What Our Patients Have To Say
Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Southern Smiles from Southern Colony, and how do I get there?
Southern Smiles is about 1.2 miles from Ferndell Henry Elementary, roughly a 4-minute drive. Take FM 521 south and look for our office on the east side, just south of where Southern Colony Avenue meets the highway. Few families have a dentist near Southern Colony this convenient, and the trip involves no tolls.
Which kinds of dental insurance does the office not accept?
The office does not accept HMO dental plans, and it does not take Medicare for individuals 65 and older. It does accept all significant PPO plans, plus Medicaid/CHIP for anyone under 21. If you switched employers during your move to Southern Colony, check whether the new card says PPO or HMO before you book.
Why do my gums bleed when I floss?
Bleeding while flossing usually means the gums are inflamed, most often from plaque left along the gumline. That early stage, gingivitis, is common and often improves with a professional cleaning and steady home care. Bleeding that continues for more than a week or two deserves an exam, because untreated gum disease can progress to periodontitis.
Is it a problem if a tooth aches only when I drink something cold?
It can be. Brief sensitivity that fades in a second or two is common, but an ache that lingers can point to decay, a cracked tooth or a worn filling. Those problems are easier and less costly to fix early. Mention it at your next checkup, or book a visit sooner if it keeps getting worse.
Do new patients need x-rays at the first visit?
Most new patients do. Standard x-rays show decay between teeth, bone levels and problems below the gumline that an exam alone cannot reveal. They are included in the $99 Cleaning, Exam, & X-Ray offer for eligible new patients without insurance. The Free Emergency Exam & X-Ray also includes an image of the problem area for new patients.
